Elevating Wellness: Inside the Interior Design of Oora Skin Labs Jakarta

The commercial wellness and beauty industry in Jakarta is experiencing an unprecedented boom. With sophisticated client expectations rising, medical spas and wellness clinics can no longer rely solely on top-tier treatments; the physical environment must do equal heavy lifting, creating a design identity that separates itself from the rest of the competitors.

At INSADA, crafting a distinct brand identity in a saturated market is a challenge we have successfully met before. Our work with Lenka Beauty, a new perfume and beauty line, demonstrated how bespoke interior environments can elevate a brand's market presence.

Applying these insights, INSADA took on the challenge of designing the flagship location for Oora Skin Labs—a 250 sqm beauty spa located in the upscale enclave of Setiabudi, Jakarta, originating straight from South Korea. Comprehensive competitor research guided our path, and the goal was clear: translate advanced skincare science into an unforgettable, Korean-inspired spatial experience.

Here is a look behind the scenes at how our interior design team turned architectural constraints into a sanctuary of modern luxury.

The Problem: The Standard Aesthetic Vs. High-Traffic Hygiene

Creating a commercial beauty space in Jakarta comes with a unique set of challenges. Most traditional wellness centers suffer from a paradox: they want to feel warm, feminine, and inviting, but the strict demands of clinical hygiene often result in cold, sterile, and uninspiring environments.

For Oora Skin Labs, the primary obstacle was threefold:

  • The Spatial Footprint: Optimizing a 250 sqm layout to accommodate a seamless flow from high-energy public reception areas to deeply private treatment zones.

  • Material Durability: Finding materials that felt soft, tactile, and luxurious to the touch while remaining entirely non-porous, medical-grade, and easy to sanitize.

  • Brand Differentiation: Standing out in Jakarta’s competitive commercial interior market by avoiding generic, "all-white" clinical design clichés.

The Strategy: The "Skin" Metaphor & Advanced Space Planning

To bridge the gap between medical sterility and high-end luxury, INSADA anchored the concept on a poetic architectural metaphor: Skin. Skin is layered, seamless, protective, yet soft and luminous. This concept guided our space planning methodologies and material selections from day one.

1. Zoning and Spatial Flow

Our space planning prioritized a psychological transition for the guest. We divided the 250 sqm blueprint into three distinct zones:

  • The Public Zone (Attract): A high-impact entrance and reception area designed to build immediate brand trust.

  • The Transition Zone (Prepare): Soft corridors that act as a sensory decompression chamber, slowing down the guest's heart rate.

  • The Private Zone (Nurture): Highly functional, acoustically insulated treatment rooms designed for ultimate serenity.

2. Materials and Hygiene-First Selection

To execute the "skin" metaphor while meeting strict sanitary requirements, we opted for low-maintenance, easy-to-clean surfaces. We utilized a strategic combination of high-grade homogeneous tiles for heavy traffic areas and vinyl wooden planks to inject warmth without compromising on cleanliness. For the walls, curved drywall configurations were wrapped in custom wallpaper prints, offering a tactile, skin-like softness while maintaining strict hygiene standards.

The Solution: A Harmony of Soft Femininity and Dynamic Lighting

The final execution of Oora Skin Labs is a masterclass in modern commercial design, balancing a sophisticated cream base with the brand's signature pink accents.

1. The Color Palette and Tactility

Instead of harsh clinical whites, we layered warm alabaster, cream, and taupe tones to create a welcoming, high-end hospitality feel. The iconic pink accents were introduced thoughtfully—not as an overwhelming saturation, but through plush upholstery textures, subtle architectural niches, and understated signage backing.

2. A Sophisticated Lighting Strategy

Lighting is the secret weapon of successful wellness spa interior design. At Oora Skin Labs, we implemented a dual-layered, dynamic lighting strategy:

  • In Public Areas: We utilized high-CRI (Color Rendering Index) recessed LED fixtures combined with bright, diffused stretch-ceiling lights. This mimics natural daylight, making the skin look vibrant and flawless during initial consultations.

  • In Treatment Rooms: We completely eliminated direct overhead glare. Instead, we installed concealed, dimmable warm LED strips (2700K) behind architectural coves and under floating cabinetry. This indirect illumination keeps the client in a state of absolute relaxation while lying face-up.
