Cathedral Santa Maria Manado

The architectural and interior redesign of Santa Maria Cathedral in Manado represents an extraordinary feat of phased construction and sacred heritage design. To accommodate a growing parish without disrupting continuous worship, a larger Neo-Gothic structure was constructed directly around the original cathedral building, which was carefully dismantled from within once the new outer shell was completed.

The exterior showcases classic Neo-Gothic verticality, characterized by stone-textured cladding, soaring pointed arches, layered portal entrances, a delicate rose window, and twin bell towers topped with white domes and crosses. Inside, the sanctuary expands into a high-vaulted nave defined by sweeping white rib arches and classical columned aisles. Intricate stained-glass windows filter colorful daylight into the nave, illuminating a polished marble central processional aisle that leads directly toward a sanctuary altar backdropped by soaring stained glass panels.
