From Concept to Concourse: Designing Lenka Modern Classical Fragrance Kiosk

In the hyper-competitive world of commercial retail, a brand’s physical footprint must do more than just hold inventory—it has to tell a story instantly. When emerging fragrance brand Lenka approached our team, they needed a commercial space that could cut through the noise of a bustling shopping mall.
As a premier interior design consultant, our goal was to translate their identity into a tangible, high-impact luxury retail kiosk design. Here is how we turned a temporary pop-up into a distinct piece of boutique retail branding.

The Problem: Breaking Through the Mall Noise
Temporary mall kiosks and pop-ups face a unique set of challenges. They operate within a finite, open-air footprint and must compete directly with other brands and massive, permanent storefronts for consumer attention.
For Lenka, the design challenge was twofold:
How do you establish a premium, high-end brand identity without the structural advantages of a traditional brick-and-mortar storefront?
How do you encourage foot traffic to slow down, stop, and engage in an intimate, sensory product experience in the middle of a high-traffic walkway?
The Strategy: Modern French Elegance & Strategic Space Planning
To capture the essence of a luxury fragrance house, our commercial interior design strategy relied on a "Modern Classical" aesthetic. We aimed for a French-inspired classical expression but reinterpreted it through contemporary clean lines and high-end materials.
With an open-concept layout, retail space planning required strict zoning to maximize user engagement. By bringing guests onto an elevated platform, the layout invites them to interact with elements divided into three distinct customer touchpoints:
The Attraction Zone (Front Counter): A low-profile main counter facing the primary walkway features an illuminated logo and a curated testing bar to draw customers in.
The Experiential Zone (The Cart): A whimsical, fabric-canopied display cart heavily adorned with dramatic floral arrangements creates a romantic, photo-worthy focal point which also serves as the Point of Sale (POS).
The Conversion Zone (The Feature Wall): Positioned deeper within the booth's perimeter to allow interested buyers to browse the full collection in a more intimate setting.

Design Detail: The flooring utilizes a classic black-and-white diamond tiled platform with built-in perimeter LED under-lighting, physically separating the pop-up from the mall's standard concourse flooring.
The Solution: Material Luxury & Dynamic Retail Lighting
The final execution brought the strategy to life by balancing rich, tactile materials with sophisticated retail lighting design.
Premium Material Specifications
To evoke an immediate sense of luxury, we juxtaposed traditional architectural molding with modern, texture-rich surfaces:
Cabinetry & Millwork: Finished in a crisp, satin cream paint accented by deep charcoal architectural trim and classical wall paneling profiles.
Countertops: Swathed in a highly polished black marble with striking white veining, offering a durable yet ultra-premium surface for perfume testing.
Accents: The lower columns and display stands feature a striking, high-contrast wood veneer with an organic, wavy grain pattern, adding a layer of avant-garde texture.

Innovative Lighting Strategy
In fragrance retail, product presentation is everything. We engineered a custom, backlit perfume display wall that serves as the visual anchor of the entire space.
Using an array of individual recessed cubbies, we installed color-temperature-controlled backlighting behind each shelf. This creates a vibrant, rainbow-gradient glowing effect that beautifully diffuses through Lenka’s colorful liquid fragrances, transforming the bottles into glowing jewels. Additional acrylic display cases feature illuminated pedestals, ensuring the bottles are underlit to minimize harsh shadows and highlight product clarity.
