This philosophy became the foundation of INSADA's collaboration with Mayapada Hospital in designing the inaugural Mayapada Eye Center at Mayapada Hospital Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta. As the first specialist eye centre developed by the hospital group, the 500-square-metre facility was designed as a benchmark for future Mayapada Eye Center locations throughout Indonesia.

The challenge was not only to create a technologically advanced medical facility, but also to establish a distinctive identity that reflects Mayapada's commitment to providing world-class eye care. INSADA developed a design approach that balances precision medical technology with warmth, comfort, and emotional reassurance—resulting in a healthcare environment where innovation feels approachable and human.

Located within Mayapada Hospital Lebak Bulus, the Eye Center delivers comprehensive ophthalmology services, including specialist consultation rooms, diagnostic facilities, LASIK theatres, SMILE operating suites, and post-treatment recovery areas.

As a specialist facility operating inside an existing hospital, one of the primary design challenges was creating an identity distinct from the broader hospital environment while remaining consistent with Mayapada Hospital's premium healthcare standards.

INSADA developed what we describe as a Soft Futurism design language—a refined interpretation of futuristic healthcare architecture that replaces cold, sterile aesthetics with elegant curves, tactile materials, and calming spatial experiences.

Instead of relying on sharp geometries often associated with high-tech environments, the interior embraces flowing architectural lines and sculptural forms that gently guide patients throughout the facility. Curved walls, seamless junctions, and softened edges reduce visual stress while reinforcing a sense of continuity and movement.

The result is an environment that communicates technological excellence without sacrificing emotional comfort.

Designing Around Patient Psychology

For many patients, visiting an eye clinic can be an emotionally challenging experience. Procedures such as LASIK and cataract surgery often involve uncertainty and anxiety, making the physical environment an important contributor to the overall patient experience.

Warm neutral finishes replace the stark white palette traditionally associated with hospitals, creating an atmosphere that feels closer to a premium hospitality environment than a clinical institution. Carefully integrated indirect lighting eliminates harsh contrasts while enhancing visual comfort—an especially important consideration within an ophthalmology facility where patients may experience temporary light sensitivity.

Human-centred curves continue throughout the interior, softening circulation paths and creating intuitive wayfinding that helps patients navigate the space with confidence.

Comfortable lounge seating, soft lighting, and generous viewing opportunities transform what might otherwise be an anxious waiting period into an informative and reassuring experience.
