Bold grid, tropical soul: Sukabumi’s ultimate design escape
Hotel Sukabumi
INSADA provided the master planning, architecture, and interior design for a new 4-star boutique hotel in Sukabumi, West Java. Designed to overcome the spatial constraints of a 4,000 sqm plot, the project strategically maximizes expansive northern vistas of the cityscape and distant mountains. The highly versatile L-shaped building efficiently integrates a six-story main wing featuring the reception, luxury lounge, and premium guest suites, along with a secondary wing dedicated to corporate MICE facilities, all while cleverly tucking parking and back-of-house service areas out of sight to cater to both leisure families and corporate clients.
The hotel's design serves as a masterclass in tropical modernism, effortlessly blending crisp geometric lines with contextual environmental responsiveness. Its exterior features a prominent multi-story concrete grid skeleton that acts as an integrated brise-soleil, providing natural solar shading while creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. The architecture utilizes a rich material palette of muted ochre, bronze accents, and textured travertine, topped with a double-height crown that visually lightens the building's mass. Inside, the interior fuses sophisticated, calming base tones with vibrant biophilic energy, utilizing bold botanical graphics, custom furniture, and a suspended butterfly art installation to bring the surrounding nature indoors.
